What should I expect during a laser teeth whitening treatment?
The procedure is performed in the dental chair. The teeth are soaked in a whitening solution and activated by a laser. When we’ve determined that you are a candidate for professional teeth whitening treatment, we will need to treat any dental problems, such as cavities or tooth decay, before we can proceed to the following laser bleaching process:
- First, we will give your teeth a professional clean and polish.
- We will then put a plastic or rubber guard in your mouth to keep it open.
- Then, to protect your gums from the bleaching gel, we’ll apply a protective layer. These layers usually solidify, leaving your gums with a rubbery coating. They help keep your gums from becoming irritated and blistering.
- After the protective barrier has formed, we will apply the whitening gel to your teeth with care. The gel will then be activated with a pen-like laser. The gel will foam, indicating that it is removing stains from your teeth.
- For a few minutes, the gel is left on your teeth. Then we’ll use a little vacuum to extract it. We’ll go over these stages three or four times until your teeth are the desired shade.
